Clean court sneakers, cushioned comfort shoes or platform models: here you can compare women's sneakers from well-known brands across several shops.

Which sneaker styles are there?

A few styles have become established for women's sneakers, and they differ considerably in sole and feel:

  • Court sneakers: flat, usually white leather, inspired by tennis shoes (e.g. adidas VL Court, Puma Carina).
  • Platform sneakers: thicker sole, visually taller, often in leather or synthetics.
  • Comfort sneakers: memory-foam insoles and removable footbeds, for example from Skechers or Tamaris.
  • Retro runners: sporty running-shoe look with mesh and suede overlays.
  • Terrace sneakers: flat and slim, e.g. adidas Samba or Gazelle.

Fit and sizes

Women's sneakers are generally cut narrower than men's or unisex models. If you have slim feet, you'll often get a better hold here. With wider feet, it's worth looking at unisex models or brands that state widths. Note that Puma and Nike sometimes give UK or US sizes on their labels; UK 5 corresponds to roughly EU 38, and at Nike US W 7 is about EU 38.

Comfort for long days

If you stand or walk a lot, look for a padded, ideally removable insole. A removable footbed, as offered by Tamaris or Skechers, lets you use your own orthotic insoles. Platform soles are often heavier and less flexible; for long walks, flatter, bendy soles are usually more comfortable. Breathable mesh is good for warm days, while leather is easier to care for and moulds nicely over time.

Care: keeping sneakers looking good

Clean white leather sneakers with a damp cloth and mild soap, and mesh with a soft brush. Proof suede before wearing it for the first time. Rotate between several pairs so the shoes can air out – this extends their lifespan and helps against odours.

Colours and combinations

White and cream sneakers are the most versatile companions and go with dresses, jeans or trouser suits. Black models are less prone to marks and suit the commute. Pastel shades, metallic accents or leopard print make a statement but are harder to combine universally. If you only want to buy one pair, a simple white leather sneaker with subtle details is the safest choice.

Buying for less

Many women's models come out in new colours every season, and older colourways are then reduced. Compare several shops and watch the price history before you buy. With marketplace offers, look for commercial sellers with a returns policy so you can check the fit at home.
