From the Air Force 1 to ASICS Gel and Skechers: here you can compare men's sneakers from established brands across several shops, with price history.

The key sneaker types for men

The style you choose determines feel and use more than the brand does:

  • Basketball classics: Air Force 1, Jordan, Dunk – sturdy, with a thick sole.
  • Retro runners: ASICS Gel-Lyte, New Balance 574, adidas ZX – well cushioned, sporty look.
  • Court and terrace sneakers: adidas Samba, Puma Smash, Breaknet – flat and understated.
  • Comfort sneakers: Skechers with memory foam or slip-in entry.
  • Lifestyle Air: Air Max, Air Max Plus – eye-catching cushioning units.

Size and width

Men's sneakers usually have a normal to wide last. Size labels differ between brands: at Nike, US 9 corresponds to roughly EU 42.5, while at adidas UK 8 is about EU 42. So measure your foot length and use the respective chart. New Balance and some ASICS models also come in widths such as 2E or 4E – handy if standard sneakers pinch.

Materials and use

Smooth leather is easy to care for and also works with chinos or tailored trousers, but it creases over time. Suede looks more premium but is sensitive to wet weather. Mesh is light and breathable, but cold in winter. For rain and the in-between seasons there are models with a Gore-Tex membrane. If you walk a lot, look for a cushioned midsole made of EVA or PU foam rather than a plain rubber sole.

Buying cheaply without regrets

Big brands release new colours every season, and older colourways are then often reduced. The price history shows you whether an offer really is below the usual level. With limited models it's the other way round: an unusually low price is more likely to be a warning sign of fakes. Buy from commercial retailers with a returns policy wherever possible.

Care and durability

With a few simple steps, sneakers last much longer: rotate between at least two pairs so moisture can dry out, use shoe trees against creasing and clean leather regularly with a damp cloth. Worn insoles can usually be replaced before the whole shoe needs replacing. Proofing spray protects suede and mesh from rain and dirt.

Finding large sizes

If you have big feet, the choice is often smaller. Many models from Nike, adidas and Puma are available up to EU 47 or 48 (around UK 12), and some running and basketball models go even larger. Use the size filters in the catalogue and check whether your size is actually in stock at the retailer.
